Thank You for Visiting My Blog - About

Thank you for visiting my blog. I will be sharing my life journey with you. I realized this year that there is a name for people who have a vast array of interests that are seemingly unrelated.  These people are called polymaths. I may be one of these???  As I share with you the things I am learning and the projects I am working on, do not be surprised when I talk about science one moment and art and emotions the next. I have trained my brain to be both linear and abstract.  I am naturally artistic and live in the present moment. I tend to get immersed in whatever it is I am doing and forget about time.

I love to learn.  When I was a child, I constantly had my nose in a book. Now that we have the internet and YouTube, I have been able to consume huge amounts of information quickly. (2x speed) I am a researcher and can go very deep into my quests for knowledge. I am a natural educator and enjoy sharing what I learn with others.  This blog is a way that I can share with anyone who is interested in learning.

I have been a behavioral optometrist for over thirty years. An optometrist is an eye doctor who checks the health of the eyes and prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses. I studied developmental optometry, vision therapy and pediatrics (children) under a renowned behavioral optometrist, Dr. David Cook, and have been able to help thousands of people reach their highest potential using vision therapy.

Vision therapy uses vision and brain exercises to rehabilitate and enhance skills allowing people to reach their highest potential. When someone consults with me I look at the whole person, not just their eyeballs to assess how the person is functioning. This assessment includes physical and physiological health, emotional well-being and possible stressors, mental capacity, learning strategies, movement, and body posture.  So many things can affect how a person is showing up and functioning in life. This also includes relationships at home, at school, at work and in social situations. Vision is assessed because eighty percent of what we perceive comes through our eyes. The eyes give the brain input.  The brain interprets the information the eyes provide and then puts the body into motion.

To get to the level where I could assess clients this thoroughly, I have studied and mastered many modalities and I have certifications in so many areas.  Along the way I became proficient in:  Western medicine, Integrative medicine, nutrition, fitness and exercise, many emotional trauma clearing techniques, reiki, bio-energetic medicine, kinesiology, vision therapy, brain rehabilitation, syntonic light therapy, micro-current therapy, laser light therapy, essential oil therapy, therapies that increase intelligence and mental capacity and neuro-linguistic programming.

I began this journey when I received my Doctor of Optometry degree from Illinois College of Optometry and did a fellowship in Behavioral Optometry and Pediatrics with Dr. David Cook.

After I assess where a person is at, I have a starting point to begin my work.  I find out what their goals are and then I write a program that provides them with the skills they need to accomplish their goals.  In the past, I did this in a vision therapy center. Clients would come in twice a week and my therapists would coach them through the vision and brain exercises. I would also send "eyework" home for them to work on throughout the week.

As I worked with clients throughout the years, I realized that I was doing more and more brain therapy and less vision therapy. I also found that when I added movement and colored light therapy to their programs their progress skyrocketed. From this I created a new technology called Optic BrainFit. Just like people go to the gym to get stronger healthier bodies, people go to Optic BrainFit to integrate their bodies and brain resulting in optimal performance in all areas of life. I love talking about this. Message me if you would like to know more about this life-changing technology that I am bringing to the masses as an enhancement model, not a medical one. Anyone at any age can benefit from this technology because it is scaled to your ability level.

I get so much joy from seeing people doing well and enjoying their life. About twelve years ago I was looking at my own life and assessing where I was. I am a single mom of three children. My kids were getting older and becoming more independent every day. I began to think about my life. I knew it would not be that many years before I would be an empty nester. My family is so important to me, and I love having a houseful. I started asking myself questions like, "What will it be like when my children move on with their lives and I am alone in the house?" I really enjoyed my profession and being a behavioral optometrist, but I wanted to do more and help more people.

I began a quest to find out what I wanted to do with the second half of my life.  I completed so many self-assessments and personality tests. I read the book: The Passion Test by Janet Atwood. I highly recommend this book. (Amazon link to book: https://amzn.to/3Idv4VY)

From my personal internal journey and research, I realized that the best way to share my knowledge and expertise with a large number of people is through public speaking. There was only one problem with this. I had always been the listener in my family, at school and at church. I got nervous when I had to talk in front of only a few people. I do not like being the center of attention and am the quietest person in social settings where there is a group of people. How would I overcome this?

I overcame it the same way I have overcome many things in life: through training. I studied with some of the top public speakers in the world: Les Brown, Bill Walsh, James Dentley, Niurka, Lisa Sasevich and James Malinchak to name a few. The training gave me the confidence I needed to perform, but what drove me to succeed was my burning desire to help others live their best lives. Lives of happiness, meaning and fulfillment. A life that gave them everything they needed to live their unique passion and purpose and leave a legacy. At the end of life, everyone wants to know that their life had significance and that their presence made a difference in the world.

Mastery is important to me.  Throughout my life I have searched for masters to teach me. I have been taught by some of the most well-known, published doctors in the vision therapy space. Inventors and innovators who contributed so much to our understanding. Private sessions, invitation only, sitting at the feet of these great men and women.  It is so important to pass on knowledge.  When a person dies all their knowledge and experience die with them. Some of the doctors I have studied with are so far ahead of everyone else that only a fraction of what they are teaching is understood.

There is a neuro-chiropractor that I used to collaborate with in the past when I had patients with extremely difficult cases. Whenever, other doctors did not know how to treat a patient they would send them to me. I got some of the toughest cases. I enjoyed the challenge. However, when the patient would first come to me and I saw their condition, I would think to myself, "I have no idea how I am going to help you", but somehow, I always did help them.  I would begin by assessing what their present level of functioning was and I would start from there. I would do what I knew to do and kept innovating until they improved and then I would figure out the next step.

Sometimes the patients needed more than I was trained to do, that is when I would collaborate with the neuro-chiropractor. We would treat the patient simultaneously. This doctor was brilliant.  He knew more about the brain than most doctors.  He was on the cutting edge of brain research. He got together and talked about brain function with his other colleagues for fun. I have been trained in brain function, but when this doctor started talking, I probably only understood about half of what he was saying because he talked fast and was way ahead of everyone else.

Unfortunately, one day this doctor got sick, and he got worse and worse. He never recovered.  He was in his fifties. He died and when he did all that life-saving knowledge that could have helped so many people died with him. He was gone and so was his experience and knowledge.

The experience of losing this doctor and friend had an effect on me. I am determined not to die with all my knowledge and experience inside me. I intend to share my gifts, experience and learnings with the world.  I want everyone to benefit from what I have learned in my life.  I want to die empty having fully lived my passion, purpose and sharing my unique gifts with the world. Shine my light so everyone who desires to live their dreams can see the path.

I was curious to know what a happy, fulfilled life would look life. I began a quest to find out what true happiness is and how to create a life of significance. The researcher in me came out. I read so many books and articles. I decided to write my own book based on my research. I began by interviewing people from different walks of life to find out what gave them happiness and fulfillment and how they were putting their gifts out into the world.

As I interviewed the different people, the book I was writing morphed and changed.  It looked very different in the end. Also, just before the book was sent to the publisher I experienced a life event that changed my life.

I had been engaged to the most loving amazing man.  I loved and adored him, and he loved and adored me. We were nine weeks away from our wedding day.  I talked to him on Monday and on Tuesday he was found dead in his bed. He had some heart issues and his lungs had filled with fluid and he died. This was shocking and heart-wrenching for me.  I rewrote some of the book before I sent it to be published to include the story of my fiancĂ©, Glenn.

The book is called Visualizing Happiness in Every Area of Your Life. It is a step-by-step guide to creating an incredible life. It includes the stories of people from different walks of life and how they created fulfillment in their lives from a monk who teaches HotCore Yoga, to a feisty retired woman who lives life on her own terms, to a well-known author, speaker and filmmaker. Buy the book and read it. It is in workbook format so you can make changes in your life as you read it. Here is the Amazon link for the book: https://amzn.to/3tbea69 .

Interviewing people for the book was so enjoyable that I wanted to do more.  There is so much we can learn from others and how they designed their lives.  It is also interesting how they arrived at the place they are at, in other words, the journey. In my quest for helping as many people as possible I wanted to find another platform from which to share. Two and a half years ago I started a podcast which also became a YouTube channel a year ago called, Incredible Life Creator. I have interviewed over three hundred guests from around the world. I enjoy connecting and learning from them and sharing their stories with anyone who listens. Here are the links for the podcast:

My quest to live a life of significance began many years ago.  I was a new doctor, and I was opening my first family medical practice. I was determined to be successful no matter what it took.  I would get to the office early, work all day and then at dinner time my nanny would bring my three children ages six, five and two to the office.  I would feed them and continue working.  Sometimes until nine o'clock at night. I thought I was doing this for my children and my future.

One night I got a call from home. My dad had been in a terrible car accident, and we did not know if he would make it through the night.  I thought about the fact that I might not ever see my dad again. Anyone we love can be gone in an instant and there is nothing we can do about it.  I realized then how precious life is.  I determined to make every moment count.

Thankfully, my dad did survive that accident and he is doing well today. I reorganized my life at that point. I created space in my week to take care of myself, to spend time with my kids and believe it or not, I worked less hours and made more money!

Now that I have shared some of my story, you can see how important it is to cherish every moment we have and to live fully, holding nothing back. I will be sharing what I am learning and my experiences. I hope it will inspire you to live you best life. Let's enjoy the journey together.

 Kimberley
